Söltuð Píka (E. Salted Pussy) is a group showcase of original artwork, featuring charts and quotes from our 200+ members, along with a lecture honoring the foremothers of design.
Every spring there's a city wide festival called DesignMarch in Reykjavík where number of events take place.
Grapíka Islandica is a non profit that was originally founded at the height of the #MeToo movement in 2017. And on October 25th, which is the day women go on strike to demonstrate the indispensable work of women for Iceland's economy and society.
We in the Grapíka Islandica committee organized a show in 2025 to bring attention to what female presenting designers in Iceland often face. And how “salty” we are about it. Grapíka is a pun, in English it would be called Gra[b]pussy. That’s why we ended up calling the show Salted Pussy.
I designed the logo and part of the space. Set up the LED lights myself and got a local salvage yard to donate some frames that we then painted during a Wine & Paint night with the artists showcasing. The space had such beautifully unfinished and raw look. A local bank was loaning it out for the festival. It paired so well with the various pink colors we used.
The show got a lot of attention and even president Halla Tómasdóttir made an appearance at the opening.
After the lecture about the designs that shaped Iceland our foremothers of designs were awarded for trailing the path.
The printing, frames and drinks were all donated from local businesses.
My contribution to the art show
Maríanna Björk Ásmundsdóttir gave a lecture called You Had to be a Bit of a Rebel. All about the women made branding that shaped Iceland.
A survey was sent out to the members. Not nice comments that clients, bosses and coworkers have dropped. Along with statistics about salaries and such.
Visitors were invited to add salt into the jar depending on how salty they felt about the statistics on the wall.
Obviously the drinks had to be pink too.
Painting the frames with the Grapíka members.
