Sandra Rós Björnsdóttir aka Krumla
My journey has been quite complex and varied. It took me some time to figure out what my main passion was. I studied business, then got AA in Multimedia Design, then a BFA in Animation: Visual Development and went to work as an independent illustrator and comic artist for a while.
Showcased at Emerald City Comic Con, San Francisco Comic Con and Thought Bubble, amongst others. Then moved back to Reykjavik, got a job as an art teacher, and freelanced as a concept and background artist for an animated show.
Realized that I had limited interest in working in animation and comics. Went back to my dream of being a designer, got a job as a multimedia designer at a startup EdTech gaming company. We won a BETT, twice. Was the main concept artist and art director on our app game WordPlay and worked on the original game Mussila Music. But mostly did marketing content and oversaw branding for the company.
Freelanced for other game companies and won a couple of Game Jams along the way. That’s when I realized what tied everything together for me. Love of storytelling, interesting visuals, and engaging designs.
Since then I’ve been building on my marketing and branding skills. Writing strategies and coming up with creative solutions that resonate with people. It’s not about making things pretty, it’s about making people feel something. Joy, comfort, excitement etc. And that’s my goal. To make the world more interesting.
